The Return of Great Power Rivalry In A Post Global World
October 19, 2022—U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited Stanford University and technology firms in the Silicon Valley this week. He said research and development of technology are essential for U.S. interests.
“We are at an inflection point. The post-Cold War world has come to an end, and there is an intense competition underway to shape what comes next. And at the heart of that competition is technology.”

Global Competition ‘Back With A Force’
Former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice agreed that the world has returned to a “great power rivalry” not seen since the last century.
“This is something that I don’t think we really ever thought we would see again after the collapse of the Soviet Union,” Rice said. “But indeed it has come back, and it’s come back with force.”

They spent a significant amount of time talking about Russia and China. It’s been nearly a year since CIA Director William Burns told a crowd at the college that the U.S.-China competition surpasses that of the U.S.-Soviet Cold War rivalry.
