February 28, 2022–In an extraordinary special session by the UN General Assembly, Ukraine’s representative read out a text conversation between a Russian soldier and his mom.
“Mom, I’m in Ukraine, there’s a real war. I’m scared, we shoot at everything in a row, even at peaceful ones. We were told that they would welcome us, but they throw themselves under our military equipment and do not let us pass. They call us fascists. It’s very hard for me.”
Reportedly, the Russian soldier was killed in battle. While the GER cannot independently verify the texts, the message fits with what the Russian president has been saying in his recent speeches. Increduoulsy, Vladimir Putin urged the Ukranian military to “lay down your weapons and immediately go home.”
Then later in the Feb. 24 speech, it becomes clear that it is the West and the NATO alliance Putin is trying to fight by inflicting pain and domination on Ukraine.
“Today’s events are not connected with the desire to infringe on the interests of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. They are connected with the protection of Russia itself from those who took Ukraine hostage and are trying to use it against our country and its people,” Putin said at the start of his war.
Putin in his speeches focuses on history, dating back to the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Hotline Number for Families of Russian Military
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense has set up several phone lines for Russian families of military members. They are also reportedly allowing captured Russian forces to call home.
